Parks are an important piece of Wichita's heritage. The Wichita Parks Foundation works to ensure their lasting imapct.
The Wichita Parks Foundation (WPF) is a volunteer-led, 501(c)(3) charitable organization founded in 2011.
Our mission is to enhance the quality and maintain the heritage of Wichita’s park system by assembling necessary resources through developing partnerships and fostering relationships.
You may know us through programs we support, like Summer of Discovery scholarships for area children, renovations to the Kansas Wildlife Exhibit in Riverside Park, and our annual Red, White & BOOM July 4th celebration in downtown Wichita. We also work closely with community groups, like Friends of the Fresh Air Baby Camp and Open Streets ICT, to continue to support activities and park enhancements that improve our quality of life in Wichita.
Check this space on Thursday, October 12th for a big announcement on how you can support the Wichita Parks Foundation!
Join the Foundation at Public at the Brickyard on Tuesday, October 17 for a tasty beverage for a great cause!
Join us at Public at the Brickyard (129 N. Rock Island) from 5-7 p.m. on Tuesday, October 17 for craft beer for a good cause! During the course of the evening, $1 of every pint of Central Standard Brewing draft beer goes towards the Wichita Parks Foundation scholarship fund. This fund provides assistance to families who otherwise could not afford to participate in Wichita's Park & Recreation summer programs. The summer programs provide much needed childcare during the summer break from school. Wichita Parks Foundation board members will be present to answer questions, offer information, and participate in the fun!
Next Phase of Renovations Underway at the Kansas Wildlife Exhibit
With a successful fundraising campaign well underway, the Friends of the Kansas Wildlife Exhibit in Central Riverside Park have launched the next phase of facility improvements. In late September, all animals were temporarily moved to the Sedgwick County Zoo while the exhibit's netting was removed. With the netting removed, the steel support structure will be sandblasted and repainted and some of the animal habitats will receive additional upgrades. The last step will be installation of new, high quality netting, similar to what you'd find at the zoo. Work on this phase is expected to last until the third week of October, weather permitting.

Wichita Parks Foundation Summer Scholarship Program was a Success, Awarding almost $10,000 in Assistance to Area Children
Another great summer is in the books, and the Wichita Parks Foundation has exciting news to report. Our summer scholarship program awarded almost $10,000 in financial assistance to 15 area children to attend Summer of Discovery at Edgemoor Recreation Center.
Summer of Discovery is a 10-week summer program offered at Edgemoor, Linwood and Orchard Recreation Centers. Each week is organized around a different theme, and children participate in activities and go on field trips related to those themes. It's a great summer activity for children in families with working parents!
Community support is crucial to our scholarship program. Every $100 we raise offers full financial support for a child to attend Summer of Discovery. You can offer your support by donating online (click the button at the top of the page), mailing a check to the foundation, or contacting us to discuss additional ways you can help.

Thank you, Wichita! Over 10,000 attend Red, White & BOOM! 2017 in Downtown Wichita
Red, White & BOOM! 2017, presented by Freddy's Frozen Custard and Steakburgers, was a huge success, thanks to our community and our great sponsors. The KSN Lawn was full of families enjoying a night of music from The Astronauts on the Wichita Federal Credit Union Stage, followed up by the city's largest July 4th fireworks display. And don't forget the many food trucks in the Westar Energy Food Court. Thousands more watched from Lawrence Dumont Stadium, where the Wingnuts were in action as well.
Planning is underway for our 2018 event, so be on the lookout for announcements in early 2018. And while your're out and about, make sure you thank our sponsors for making this all-volunteer organized event possible.
